SMALL ARTISAN GARDEN

NORTH OXFORD

This was such a delight to work on. Sometimes the small ones can be the most challenging and therefore the most creative.

The client’s home and style is lively and quirky. Very warm and fun, with two teenage kids and a wonderful little dog.

Situated near to the river I wanted to create a path that reflected the flow of water. Clay pavers laid along the lines of a curve give the impression of a moving stream.

Three strategically placed Persian Ironwood trees give the garden much needed privacy and stunning autumn colour.

A series of vertical painted timber posts change from grey to burnt orange when viewed from different angles. These colours were taken from the interior and echoed again in the outdoor pizza oven on the lower terrace. They also double up as supports for the family hammock and washing line.

Bespoke woven willow screens add to the artisan feel of the space, as does the painted brick.

Planting is suitably muted and textural with a mix of plants which tolerate a high water table as well as drought.

On request from the neighbours we created a hole in the end wall for the dog to make her regular visits…

This project was created for Sarah Naybour Design Ltd by Sarah Naybour.

TESTAMONIAL

“We are delighted with the space Sarah created for us. It has transformed our north-facing patch into a beautiful garden

The whole process has been a real pleasure and we have all very much enjoyed working with all the team. We have a lovely garden space where we can exercise or relax, study or entertain. We look forward to enjoying it over the years to come.”
