COASTHOUSE
North Devon
This delightful seaside garden is actually two gardens, either side of Costhouse, North Devon.
The whole exterior is protected from the ferocious winds by whitewashed and local stone walls. These provide beautiful backdrops of contrasting textures for the various plants and trees.
One side is a quiet reflective space on two levels. A simple water tank set amongst naturalistic planting, falls down to a rill which runs along the width of the lower terrace. Sitting on the upper terrace you are in a planted sanctuary, in dappled shade mid summer. Trees and Miscathus grasses add height and screening as well as movement when the wind blows!
The other side has a very different feel. A flexible space for outdoor dining and cooking, equipped with an Argentine grill and Pizza oven, surrounded by herbs and colourful perennials. The whole area is gravel mulched giving it a spacious feel.
The planting is loose and soft with self-seeding perennials and herbs mixed together.

TESTAMONIAL
‘The gardens were the icing on the cake for the whole house renovation project. We love cooking and dining in the gravel garden and the courtyard is such a lovely space to relax and hang out with all our friends and family who often visit.
Sarah did a fantastic job transforming the space and manging the project in tricky circumstances.’
